Also included is a Viewing Help Guide which is designed to help you optimize your Adobe® Reader® settings to ensure legibility is balanced with performance. Those with older computer systems may wish to look through the Viewing Help Guide in particular as it includes some “power tips” for speeding up the relatively large file size of the Trip Strategy Guides™ on slower computers.

Downloading
While we would like to assume that your download was successful, problems do happen from time to time, especially for those transferring large files over dial-up connections. Assuming you made your way back to the site to read this guide, there are a few options you have. First of all, if you have used a browser like Firefox, you may be able to recover the download. Depending on the amount of data that was transferred, you can select the “Retry” option to recover the rest of the file. To do this select Tools>Downloads and click the “Retry” link to the right of the file. If you do this before closing your browser, you should be able to recover the lost file. Once the browser window is closed, however, the link for the download will expire.
Those with Internet Explorer, AOL, or another browser will need to attempt to download the file again, through the Dashboard. Before doing so, however, contact us at support@ezoutdoorsys.comso that we can credit manually credit a download to your account. Within a 24 hour period of your first download we provide some flexibility around our download policy in order to assist our customers and their needs.
Most download problems for users with dial-up are caused because the provider “times-out” and disconnects the connections. Since there are literally thousands of dial-up internet service providers in the US, we can’t tell you with how to prevent this from happening with your particular arrangement. We can tell you that if your service does automatically disconnect during a download, the best thing you can do to prevent it from occurring again is to keep your internet connection active. For example, while the download is taking place, keep our site open and browse around. While your browsing experience will certainly be slower with the download taking place in the background, you will ensure that your service provider’s system recognizes your computer as actively using the connection and prevent disconnects.
Installation
The installer and copyright protection method we have chosen to use is designed to be seamless and transparent to the user. When you run the installation file for our Trip Strategy Guides™ on a Windows® machine, the following occurs::
- The File Open Publisher plug-in is installed for Adobe® Reader® to allow you to view documents which have been protected by the publisher.
- The Trip Strategy Guide™ is extracted from the installer and placed in the current folder of the installer.
- Permissions are recorded which are unique to your individual machine to prohibit copying and unauthorized file-sharing of the document from the machine on which it was originally installed.
- An installation completion dialog is displayed to let you know the above have all occurred successfully.
- The file is opened within your default Reader® application to allow you to view the document.
That is the entirety of what place during the course of the installation. While infrequently problems do occur during the installation, we have chosen this method to ensure the simplest form of copyright protection while ensuring minimal problems. Macintosh users have a similar setup, with a few additional steps.
Installation Errors
Below is a list of possible errors and the steps which you can take to correct them:
Error: You see the following error message:

Solution: You will need to download the FileOpen plug-in and install it manually. Most often this occurs because of permissions you have specified in Adobe Reader regarding 3rd party plug-ins. FileOpen can adjust these for you automatically, however if you clicked “No” when the dialog appeared, a manual installation will be necessary. You can download the plug-in from our site by logging in to your Dashboard, Choosing Product Downloads, and selecting the option to download the FileOpen Plug-In .
Error: You receive and error message telling you that you do not have permission to open the document and instructing you to contact EZ Outdoor Systems.
Solution: There are several reasons this may occurred. The first is that the installation program ran unsuccessfully. You should close any open programs, especially Reader® or Acrobat®, and attempt to run the installation program again. The second is a corrupted installation program on our server. If this is the case, you should contact us immediately so that we can resolve the issue for yourself and other customers. Before you do so, however, the third reason is that the installer has detected the presence of software designed to crack the encryption of the plug-in. A dialog will display asking you to remove this software, however this does not occur in all cases. If you have such software on your computer, you must remove it before installing the Trip Strategy Guide™.
Error: After opening the document and viewing it, upon opening again you find your permissions have been revoked.
Something has become corrupted within the permission files for the plug-in. In most cases, restarting your computer will resolve the issue. If this does not work, you will need to contact us as we will have to issue you a manual re-authorization installer which can only be generated by our support department.
If you have received an error not documented above, please contact us immediately so that we may resolve it to your satisfaction.
Problems to Avoid
While the above outlines some potential errors during the course of the installation, after the install has been completed there are some problems which can be avoided in the handling of the file containing your Trip Strategy Guide.
Do: Keep the file stored in a safe place on your computer. Making a backup of the file on CD or other blank media is acceptable as long as you take into account that the file will only run on the computer from which it was originally installed. To use the backup, you will have to copy the file back onto your computer to view the document.
Do: Print a copy of the document to take on the road. Or feel free to stop back to our site and order a professionally printed version of the guide. We charge only our printing and shipping costs, plus a 5% administrative charge as a service to our customers who wish to have a hard copy to go along with their digital version. Before printing on your home printer, however, please check out the Print Help Guide that was included with your installation file. It will help to avoid waste of expensive paper and ink as well as ensuring the quality of your printout matches the original.
Do Not: Attempt to change the security settings in the document. Doing so will render the file unusable. Once done, the only solution is to download a new guide, wasting one of your three in the process.
Do Not: Uninstall the version of Adobe® Reader® which was in service on your computer when the document was installed. While the document will work fine on the newer versions of Acrobat as you upgrade, funny things can happen when your systems registry values for the older version are removed. It’s best just to leave that version in place. You can delete the shortcuts and Program Group icons for it, however.
